Life can be unfair sometimes. Why should a little child be diagnosed with a deadly disease such as cancer? It’s really painful and desperate when an innocent child should cross a difficult street across the life journey. Considering that the treatment of cancer wants so much patience and hope, how can such a tiny child understand it and wait for the best thing to happen?
Below you will read a story of a 3-year-old boy who was diagnosed with a rare form of lung cancer.
He was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer
This boy called Dylan Askin has pulmonary Langerhans cell histiocytosis, and it forms cysts on his lungs that make it hard for him to breathe. One month after getting treatment, he collapsed at his school in Derby, England. His prognosis was good after chemotherapy, but then, he collapsed after his lungs were worst.
What actually happened to this innocent boy?
He was rushed to the hospital, and doctors were forced to put him on life support. He was admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit. Soon, Dylan contracted an infection, and all his organs began to fail. Dylan’s heart raced to 200 beats per minute, and his temperature spiked and plummeted. It was Good Friday when Dylan’s parents Kerry, 29 and Mike, 36, were asked if they wanted to remove him from life support.
How did they parent react when he was fighting with life?
Kerry said it was a miracle that Dylan has survived as long as he did after his lungs collapsed in January 2016. Mike and Kerry made the heartbreaking decision to remove Dylan from life support.
They had him baptized and said their goodbyes. Bryce, their older son, was at the hospital. Baby Logan was being cared for by friends.
As they weaned Dylan off the muscle sedatives, the unthinkable happened – Dylan moved his legs. If he was brain dead, he shouldn’t be able to do that. The doctors ran tests and found out Dylan was not brain dead!
But in the end, they got the good news
Dylan stayed on life support for a few more weeks and slowly recovered. Kerry and Mike now refer to Dylan as their miracle baby!
